Images captured at the Rosewood Centennial, held at the University of Florida Law School in Gainesville, FL on Friday January 13, 2023. The event commemorated and explored issues related to the Rosewood Massacre that took place the second week of January, 1903. The centennial event ran from January 8-14, featuring panels, discussions, presentations, and screenings. Friday’s program started with the topic Where Do We Go From Here?, a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Maxine D. Jones (principal author of a report on The Rosewood Incident for the Florida Legislature in 1993). Next was the Legacy Forum which featured two panels, the first being The Experience of Rosewood Families (a discussion with descendants of Rosewood) and the second being The Impact of Rosewood (a discussion of how a foundation for reparations was laid by creation of legislation to redress the state’s responsibilities in the matter). Both were moderated by Dr. Kenneth Nunn. The keynote for the day was given by Attorney Benjamin Crump. The day concluded with A Conversation with the Next Generation panel discussion. (Skip Rowland)
